Internationale Sommerakademie 2025

International Summer School and Summer School Junior are back!

All ballet and dance enthusiasts, dance students, professional dancers and hobby dancers are welcome. Two weeks of ballet and dance at Ballettzentrum Westfalen and Opernhaus Dortmund.

Experience the day-to-day work of a professional ballet dancer – instructors and colleagues from Ballett Dortmund will be there for you.

The junior course is organised in cooperation with the German Professional Association for Dance Education (DBfT)

Please note! Registration for 2025 is complete and reogistration form closed. Male participants still have the opportunity to apply for the Summerschool. Please send your dance CV and a video link with a dance video to the email address below, until 25th June.

Fees one week (first or second week Woche): 590 €; two weeks: 960 €

Price includes

  • all courses and teaching modules
  • daily lunch, fruit and mineral water
  • certificate of completion for your CV
  • individual support from the Ballett Dortmund team
  • individual counselling sessions on professional dance training and career start

Accommodation is not included in the price, we can arrange accommodation at affordable theatre rates.

Summer School Junior

A cooperation between Ballett Dortmund and the German Professional Association for Dance Education (DBfT)

Date 18.-23. August 2025
Location Opernhaus Dortmund (Theaterkarree 1-3, 44137 Dortmund)
Age 12-15 years (Obligation to apply)

Please note! Applications should be sent to the email address below until 25th June, stating your name, gender, address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, current ballet school and a video link with dance video of up to 3 minutes (for example parts of training at the barre).

Fees 360 €

We are delighted that Ballett Dortmund's successful summer school can be resumed in summer 2025. It is structurally integrated into the Ballett Dortmund Summer Academy and is run by the DBfT. A special programme for students aged between 13 and 15 will be designed and built on the basis of previous years' experience.

This advanced course offers targeted, pre-vocational support for particularly talented students between the ages of 13 and 15 with very good knowledge of classical dance. Applications are compulsory. 

To the application form

The application should include a link to a video with short (16 -32 bars) training examples:
1. Battements
2. Adagio
3. Allegro

Classes take place daily from 10-16:00 in the ballet studio of Theater Dortmund.

Planned programme (subject to change)

  • 10:00-11:30: Classical with Prof. Ingo Meichsner
  • 11:45-13:00: Modern dance with a lecturer from the Summer School
  • Break: Lunch in the staff restaurant of the City of Dortmund (Monday to Thursday),
  • 14:30-16:00: Classical repertoire with Prof. Ingo Meichsner

The exact timetable and lecturers will be announced to participants as soon as possible.

The plan is to end the Summer School with a closing event on Sat, 23 August, in which the participants of the Junior School will also take part.

Please note The Summer Academy is not a holiday camp. Parents of minors are responsible for supervision outside of course times.
